Solid Hardwood Construction

We start with clear, kiln dried, premium hardwoods like Basswood and White Oak. We mill our own lumber so that we can maintain quality control to insure that your shutters are made properly. We also use only solid hardwoods, no fingerjointed material, so that your shutters can be stained, painted or left natural.

True Custom Sizing and Custom Designs

Kestrel interior shutters are made custom sized to fit your windows. The industry standard is to take stock sizes of shutters and cut them down to fit your window. Besides wasting wood, this results in interior shutters that are not proportional and look wrong. We take the more traditional, and green, approach and design your shutters from scratch to fit your windows perfectly. We offer several interior shutter options including custom thickness and wood species, louver blade sizes and frame layouts. We also provide an historic reproduction service or we can work from your own drawings.

Well Made

We hand build our Interior Shutters the same way we build our doors. Precisely milled parts are assembled using traditional pegged, mortise and tenon joinery. This method of joinery was used to build Stonehenge as well as ancient Greek and Roman ships. It is extremely strong and durable, outperforming the dowel joints found in most other shutters sold today.
