Unlike other shutter manufacturers we offer our Board & Batten shutters in any size board width, customized to your needs. These are available with and without air gaps, breadboard ends and cutouts. Custom sized Kestrel Board and Batten shutters are made from clear, kiln dried Spanish Cedar which is stronger and more durable than Western Red Cedar.

Materials:
Spanish Cedar is a wood with several qualities that make it ideal for exterior shutter use as well as interior applications. It is a true hardwood unlike all other cedars. This makes it much more durable and better able to hold up to storms and hurricanes. Another important feature is that the wood grain of Spanish Cedar naturally allows moisture to "breathe" out preventing it from rotting. This is one of the reasons it is the wood traditionally used for humidors. Spanish Cedar is also very similar in coloring and grain pattern to true Honduran Mahogany which makes it an ideal cost effective alternative. Other wood species are available upon request.

Custom board widths		From the beginning Kestrel Manufacturing has been designing and building custom shutters and historic reproductions. Should you have a special layout in mind or some of the original shutters to duplicate please fax us a drawing detailing your specific needs. This includes matching the boards and battens as well as the location of the battens. Other features of Kestrel Board and Batten Shutters can be customized to match your personal taste.

Arched top		Most any style of shutter is available in an arched top. Arched designs include half-round, quarter round, sunburst, eyebrow and gothic.
Cut-outs on paneled shutters		All panel shutters are available with your choice of any of our 12 standard cutouts from circa 1847-1848 or your own custom decorative cutouts.
Hurricane Protection		Kestrel shutters are ideal where hurricanes are a concern. Our 1.1/4" thick and 1.3/4 thick boards of solid Spanish Cedar hardwood, secured with concealed stainless steel fasteners, greatly reduce the damaged caused from flying debris. Add our special hurricane panels to any Kestrel Board and Batten shutter and you will have shutters that exceed Dade County specifications for hurricane protection.
Mounting Hardware		An extensive array of exterior shutter hardware is available to give your home that finishing touch. Choose from the largest selection of shutter dogs available (several of which are made exclusively for Kestrel) as well as hinges, slide bolts, hurricane locks and more.
